Dealership Ceramic Coating vs a Professional Detail Shop

Quick answer: Do not choose by seller type alone. Compare the exact product, paint inspection, decontamination, correction decision, covered surfaces, cure process, written service term, maintenance requirements, and total installed price. A dealership add-on and a detail-shop coating are only comparable when those details are written down.

A new-car finance office may offer paint protection while the paperwork is being signed. A detail shop may quote a separate appointment after inspecting the paint. Either offer can sound simple, but the word “ceramic” does not tell you the product, preparation, coverage, or obligations.

Start With the Product Name

Ask for the manufacturer and exact product line. Then look for official preparation, application, and maintenance information. Delicate Details lists CarPro CQuartz SiC for the 2-year tier, DQuartz for the 5-year tier, and DQuartz plus Gliss for the 10-year tier. We put the selected service tier and covered surfaces in writing.

The official CQuartz SiC product instructions call for clean, decontaminated, well-polished paint and an oil-removal step before coating. That illustrates why product name and preparation cannot be separated.

Ask What Paint Preparation Is Included

New paint is not automatically defect-free. Transportation film, dealership washing, lot dust, water spots, and prior handling can leave contamination or visible marring. On the other hand, every new vehicle does not automatically need aggressive correction.

The right process is inspection-based: wash, decontaminate as needed, inspect under appropriate lighting, measure or assess the finish where relevant, and recommend only the polishing needed for the agreed result. Any correction removes a small amount of paint or clear coat, so it should have a reason.

Compare Coverage, Not Just the Bottle

Clarify whether the quote covers paint only or also wheels, exterior glass, trim, lights, door jambs, or interior surfaces. Ask whether those are the same product, a surface-specific product, or a separate add-on. “Whole car protection” can mean different things on two invoices.

Also ask what is excluded: matte surfaces, vinyl, paint-protection film, fresh body-shop paint, damaged clear coat, or previously coated areas may need different handling.

Read the Written Term and Maintenance Requirements

A multi-year label is not a promise that the car never needs washing or inspection. Ask what the stated term means, what maintenance is required, whether records must be kept, what defects are covered, and what remedy is offered. Storage, mileage, washing, mineral exposure, and contamination all affect real-world behavior.

The official CarPro DQuartz page describes the product’s intended surface and performance claims, but the customer still needs written installer terms for the actual service purchased.

Compare Price on the Same Scope

A lower add-on price may cover less preparation or fewer surfaces. A higher quote may include decontamination, inspection, machine polishing, controlled application, documentation, and a defined follow-up. Neither conclusion should be assumed; ask for the line items.

Delicate Details currently lists sedan starting prices of $799 for the 2-year tier, $1,299 for the 5-year tier, and $1,899 for the 10-year tier. SUVs and trucks are priced higher. Deeper correction and added surface coverage are confirmed before work begins.

Five Questions to Put to Both Sellers

  1. What exact product and service term am I buying?
  2. How will the paint be inspected and prepared?
  3. Which surfaces are included and excluded?
  4. What maintenance and documentation are required?
  5. Who handles inspection or a claim after installation?

If both quotes answer those five questions, you can compare value. If one depends on vague phrases such as “lifetime shine” or “never wax again,” ask for the actual written terms before paying.

How this guide was prepared: Delicate Details combines shop experience with the primary sources linked above. Product instructions, vehicle conditions, and official rules can change; the current manufacturer or agency source controls.
