Jeeps are among the most common vehicles we see at Delicate Details, and for good reason — they get used hard in and around Lubbock, and the trail dust, caliche roads, and West Texas UV are rough on them. Whether you're driving a daily Wrangler, a Gladiator that sees actual trail use, or a Grand Cherokee that stays on pavement, each has its own detailing challenges.
Here's how we approach Jeep detailing and what makes each model different.
Wranglers are the most detail-intensive Jeep because of how they're built and how they're used. Key considerations:
Wrangler paint is typically flat or matte on some models, and all trim and body cladding needs attention. The fender flares, door hinges, and Jeep badging collect caliche and dirt in ways that require a detail brush to actually clean — a pressure washer alone doesn't get it. The Dana axles and frame rails accumulate road grime that comes back up onto the body.
If the Wrangler sees trail use, we start with a full undercarriage rinse before detailing the exterior. Mud and caliche under the wheel wells will otherwise work its way back onto paint during the wash process.
Wranglers with soft tops need specific treatment. The vinyl windows on soft tops scratch easily — never use glass cleaner or abrasives on them. We clean soft top fabric with a fabric cleaner safe for vinyl-backed materials, and treat the windows with a plastic cleaner/protectant. The zipper tracks get lubricated to prevent cracking and sticking.
Hard tops are more straightforward — standard detail process applies, though the interior roof lining often collects more dust than people expect.
Wrangler interiors are hard surfaces by design — designed to be hosed out. That makes them easier to clean thoroughly but also means trail dust and caliche get into every seam and drain channel. We remove the drain plugs where accessible and treat every surface with appropriate product. Rubber floors get dressed after cleaning to prevent cracking in Lubbock heat.
The Gladiator presents all of the Wrangler's challenges plus a truck bed. Beds that see use accumulate grime in the bed rails and tie-down channels that requires dedicated attention. If the bed has a liner, it comes out for cleaning underneath. The bed exterior is often missed in quick washes — we treat it as a full panel, including the tailgate and hinges.
The Grand Cherokee and Wagoneer are luxury-segment Jeeps that get treated more like premium vehicles. The interiors often include real leather and higher-grade materials that require the same care as any luxury vehicle — pH-neutral cleaners, genuine conditioner on leather, careful work around stitched surfaces and trim inserts.
Exterior-wise, these are painted and finished the same as other premium SUVs. The primary Lubbock concern is UV on the black plastic trim — Grand Cherokees in Lubbock with faded gray trim are common. We restore and protect the trim as part of the detail, and ceramic coating options are available to lock in the appearance long-term.
Every Jeep benefits from ceramic coating, but the reasons differ by model. For Wranglers and Gladiators that see trail use, the coating makes cleaning caliche off significantly easier — contamination doesn't bond to the surface the same way. For Grand Cherokees, coating the paint, trim, and glass protects the premium finish from Lubbock UV and hard water.
We coat Jeeps of all configurations — including the soft top vinyl windows with a dedicated plastic coating product.
Trail-use Wrangler tip: If you run your Jeep off-road regularly, plan on a full detail every 6–8 weeks rather than the typical 3–4 month interval. Trail dust and mud accelerate wear on both interior and exterior surfaces significantly.
