What's Actually Included in a Full Detail in Lubbock TX
"Full detail" is not a defined term. That is why two quotes for the same words can differ by four hundred dollars.
The Problem With the Phrase
There is no industry standard for what a "full detail" contains. One shop means a wash, vacuum, and interior wipe-down for $120. Another means decontamination, machine polishing, steam extraction, and sealant for $600. Both are advertised with the same two words.
So comparing quotes by price alone tells you almost nothing. The only useful comparison is line by line: what happens to the paint, what happens to the interior, and what is charged separately.
Below is exactly what each of our three stages includes, so you can hold it against anyone else's quote.
Our Three Stages, Line By Line
Stage 1 — Essential Detail, from $195. Exterior hand wash, clay bar decontamination, tyre dressing, interior vacuum and wipe-down. This is a maintenance detail for a car that is already in good condition. It does not correct paint and it does not deep-clean upholstery.Stage 2 — Full Reset & Protect, from $350. Everything in Stage 1, plus steam cleaning of the interior, protectant on all plastics, leather treatment, full clay bar decontamination, and a six-month ceramic sealant. This is the one most people actually mean when they say "full detail."Stage 3 — Premium Detail, from $695. Everything above, plus a full interior deep clean, exterior chemical and mechanical decontamination, a one-step machine polish, and paint sealant. This gets a car as close to new condition as is possible without committing to multi-stage paint correction. All three are sedan pricing. SUVs and trucks are priced by size, and every price is published on the site rather than quoted after we have your car on the lift.
What Is Genuinely Extra
Some things are add-ons at almost every honest shop because they are unpredictable in time. Pet hair removal, heavy stain extraction, engine bay cleaning, and odour treatment all fall here.
That is not a bait-and-switch — it is that a car with severe pet hair can take three additional hours, and pricing that into every detail would mean charging everyone for a problem most people do not have. What matters is that the shop tells you the add-on price before starting, not after.
Paint correction beyond a one-step is also separate. Correction is priced by how many stages the paint actually needs, which cannot be known until it has been washed, decontaminated, and inspected under proper lighting.
How To Compare Two Quotes
Ask whether decontamination is included, and whether that means chemical, mechanical, or both. Clay bar alone is not full decontamination.
Ask whether any machine polishing is included, and if so how many stages. "Polish" and "buff" get used loosely and can mean anything from a glaze that hides defects for a month to genuine correction.
Ask what protection is applied and how long it lasts. A spray wax and a six-month sealant are not the same product and should not be the same price.
Ask how long the car will be there. A genuine full detail on a dirty vehicle is most of a day. Anything advertised as a two-hour full detail is a wash with a better name.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is included in a full car detail?
It varies by shop because there's no industry standard. Ours: Stage 1 ($195) is wash, clay bar, tyres, vacuum and wipe-down. Stage 2 ($350) adds steam cleaning, plastic protectant, leather treatment, and a 6-month ceramic sealant. Stage 3 ($695) adds full interior deep clean, exterior decontamination, one-step machine polish, and paint sealant.
How long should a full detail take?
Most of a day on a normally dirty vehicle. A two-hour full detail is a wash with a better name.
What costs extra in a car detail?
Typically pet hair removal, heavy stain extraction, engine bay cleaning, odour treatment, and any paint correction beyond a single stage. These vary too much in time to price into every job — but the price should be quoted before work starts, not after.
Why do detailing quotes vary so much?
Because "full detail" isn't a defined term. Compare line by line: what decontamination is done, whether any machine polishing is included and how many stages, what protection is applied and how long it lasts, and how long the car will be there.
